Incorporated into the glass railing of the BORÉALIS terrace, the work is inspired by three factors that have shaped the history of the region: water, the forest and people. A sense of continuity between past, present and future is created through three metaphoric islands spread out along a river. Mounted on pedestals, the islands also evoke the museum’s mission to bridge past and present. Serving as a narrative thread, the river takes us on a tour of the island of domesticated spaces, the island of ancestors, and the island of untamed territory.
